Tailwheel Endorsements

You’ll have a ball taking Brian Lansburgh’s Tailwheel Endorsement or Stick and Rudder Master Class. It’s fun and informative. You’ll be a better, safer pilot and enjoy your stick time more than ever when you take one of these courses.

Tailwheel Endorsement
The term, “tailwheel endorsement” is a little misleading.  Included in a good tailwheel course are proficiency maneuvers that hone coordination and precision flying skills.  They have nothing to do with the tailwheel but they are important and appropriate to any course preparing you to fly a tailwheel airplane.  Our course will improve those skills and give you the new skills necessary to handle a taildragger while performing three-point landings, wheel landings and crosswind landings.

Master Class
A unique way to learn skills not otherwise covered in normal syllabi

The Stick and Rudder Master Class is a special treat for those who want to really hone their flying skills. It was inspired by Brian’s experiences as an airshow comedy pilot. After an airshow, local pilots would often ask how some comedy maneuvers were done. Brian would sometimes give some impromptu lessons after the show. He found that a tremendous amount of proficiency could be gained by the average pilot while practicing some of these maneuvers. Eventually an entire course syllabus was designed and dubbed “The Stick and Rudder Master Class”. You’ll learn unconventional, challenging and fun maneuvers like the Portuguese Roll, Whoopee Stall and Alternating Slips. The course also concentrates on advanced landing techniques like the Slalom and Brian’s personal favorite, Landing in a Turn.

Survival flying is an area of major importance. You’ll learn how to make a “cover your butt departure”. You’ll learn about spin recognition and avoidance. Those who wish to can learn proficiency spins, with recovery on heading. Many pilots have taken the Master Class to prepare themselves for aerobatic training.

  • Hundreds of thousands have seen Brian fly as the bumbling clown pilot, Krashbern T. Throttlebottom in the critically acclaimed airshow comedy act, “The Acme Duck and Airshow Company”. Brian performed that act for twelve years, traveling from coast to coast and all over the U.S and Canada.
  • He flew a Grumman Ag Cat with one of the largest airborne banners ever displayed for Winston over the Daytona 500
  • Hundreds of biplane buffs flew with Brian in Steve and Suzanne Oliver’s New Standard D-25 at the Sun ‘n Fun EAA Fly-in at Lakeland Florida.
  • Brian flew one of the most exciting night airshow acts when he mounted pyrotechnics on the wing and belly of his 100 hp J-3 Cub.
  • Brian flew a camera-equipped Diamond HK-36 motor glider and Cessna 182 for Wescam, Inc. He served as a surrogate Predator UAV during battlefield simulations at NAS Fallon and once took the motor glider 30 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico to provide Fox News and CNN with live footage of a burning gas well platform and the rescue of its crew.
  • He founded Sunriver Soaring and flies the Schweizer 2-32 ride glider as well as the PA 25 “Pawnee” towplane.
